Thanked: 0I am a bit late for this thread anyway I have just tried using oil...
La Verte which is green has turned darker even after washing with soap...
With the other vintage coticule was already been used as a oil stone so the color is the same..
Coticule maybe no porous but the absorb oil... and darken their color...
Also using coticule with oil sharpen further the blade... it can be seen
from the darkening of the oil when wiped on a white cloth.
This is also obtain with water and it called self slurry,
What I usually do at every stage of the honing process I
refresh with a slurry stone the hone... so that the abrasive
particle are new and sharp...
