P.S. I did test this stone before and after an Escher. It will improve an Escher edge, not the other way around it. It's finer than an Escher.
I'm glad to hear that, on the one blade of the four I got honed on the Zulu time on the Escher improved it, no doubt. The other 3 blades edges are so good I don't want to mess with them yet, ) But it's great to hear this is a finer hone than an Escher and I have one coming my way.
it's taking awhile for me to learn the Escher properly, hopefully the learning curve with my zulu will be shorter.

I received my Zulu Grey a few days ago. The stone is beautiful, but the packaging and presentation, with stickers, and PROVENANCE is outstanding. My hat off to Mike to go all the way on that, for sure. I chose a 8X3 size for myself im comfortable with that size.
I proceded to lap the stone correctly like a few mention on this thread, i went all the way to 1200 grit
paper and finished on a very worn out DMT1200.Name: Zulu 001.jpg

I went ahead and used a common solingen razor one that im really familiar with and one that i touched up a few times. Started with a light slurry
down to all water doing X-strokes, good feedback from the stone, easy to use, and under magnification i was seeing improvement as i went along.
The test shave, when i test a new razor or new honing method i use the same procedure so that i know where i stand. The razor felt very smooth going along, but with a lot of sharpness, really an effortless shave. No irritation whatsoever from the alum, and a nice bbs easilly optained.
I will definately do more testing but for me this is the real thing for sure, and honestly i really think i can push this razor more on the Zulu.
I'm definately pleased with this purchase and i dont think many will have different opinions.

This is an update on the testing (read fun) I'm doing with the Zulu. After the improved feeling and sharpness I had on my Torry, after doing 25 laps on a water only Zulu, I wanted to see if the edge would improve with the .01CBN paste (I call it paste, but it is a spray suspension) on the micro fiber 8X3 I have it on. I did 20 laps (my usual amount to bring the edge to keenness) and strop for 60 on leather only.
The prep and lather where the same used on the first test (see post 153). This blade have always been a second tier lineup, a very comfortable shaver with 3 passes and touch ups for 100%bbs. After the Zulu, it went to a true 2 passes + minimal touch ups for a 100% bbs. Alter the 20 laps on .01CBN it stayed a 2 pass + touch ups blade, but the feeling on the face changed from what I remember from only Zulu grey and leather. It was smooth like I'm use too, but no " is this thing touching my face" kind of feeling, that I got from only the Zulu and leather. Tonight I'll take the Torry to the Zulu and leather and try my whole face again and hopefully I can feel the difference in feeling and report.
To recap, the .01 CBN spray, did not add percived sharpness to this blade, but it did change the feeling. Smooth but different from having the blade straight from the Zulu stone and leather. Double O

This might be a dumb suggestion, but has anyone thought about putting one of the labels on the non-honing side and cover with lacquer or clear fingernail polish, like an escher label? I am thinking about doing this once I get mine.

Well, what I said was I think you guys should FIRST lacquer the underside, wait for it to completely dry, then apply the label and recoat with lacquer. That way you have the label completely sealed both sides from water damage

Just wanted to thank our enablers here, of which I am one, that I am feeling a compulsion to give one of these stornes
a personal test. So I contacted MichaelC to see how the adventure begins.

Can someone in the know comment to me...

.. a frictionte #00 on the fine side compares ___ to the zulu stone?

I am still sitting on a frictionite 825 and 821 that I'm supposed to sell for a guy, and I'm on the fence about whether or not I want to buy them from him instead of selling them. I haven't used them because they are clean and I don't want to be disrespectful.

I so appreciated the shave off of the fine side of a super punjab (so I know what a frictionite is like), but it was definitely different than a vintage jnat barber hone that I have, which is probably not a lot different from the zulu.

So, anyway, summary - shaving off of a frictionite is like ___ and zulu is like ____.

WOW! i just finished shaving with the Torry this morning, after a 36 hour growth and what a shave! To recap what I've done with the Torry, I first took it to the 16K glass Shapton, then to the .5 diamond, .25CBN and the .01CBN, shaved half my face . took the Torry to the Zulu (25laps) then leather and shave the other half of the face (post 153). Second shave with it was after I took the zulu edge and used .01CBN spray on it (post 163).

This shave I took the previously pasted edge and gave it 30 laps on the Zulu (to bring back the zulu grey edge feel) and shaved my whole face with it. the feeling was, perceived by me, smoother than with the .01CBN spray. decided to do 2 passes for a 90% bbs and finished with touch ups for a 100%bbs. no weepers, specially going ATG on the mustache with slicing motion (only a few blades are capable of this task). used same prep and soap and beard growth as before. The alum reveal tingle on the chin, mustache and under jaw (the touch ups areas).

This blade have never been that good, it is not even one of my favorites. It is on the smaller side, not quite 5/8 but not 4/8. Like Zib said before, this stone is very eassy to use. When a noob like me can achive a very smooth and sharp edge from a mere comon blade like the Torry, it is a testament to the ease of use of the stone. No experience with naturals, first time lapping a natural, first time using it and only with water. Turn this Torry from a 3 pass + touch ups to a very smooth 2 pass + minimal touch ups blade. I'm impress and convince this stone is a better and simpler finisher than my pasted strops.

Next I'll try some of my favorite blades and see how they do raising a slurry and such. Thanks to Micheal, Zib (Rich) and everyone involve in the testing and discovering of this simple and effective stone! Double O
