    Thanks Glen. Great video that is going to help me a huge amount! Really appreciate it.

    Just been looking at the pictures that i have posted and there appears to be some red blotches on the actual stone. Is this normal colouration?

    the blotches might be something that was used in the past..

    I would not Lap a BH unless there is a visible problem, try a Dishwashing Green scratch pad and some Dishwashing soap to clean it up a bit and see what stays and what goes first..

    If you just dip the hone in plain water and watch the way it reacts to the surafce of the hone it might tell you about what was used in the past, there are Knife & Tool guys that use Diesel to hone which over here is sometimes dyed red.. I have also heard of people using Kerosene and Automatic Transmission Fluid as a honing fluid...

    Smell the hone too, that might give a clue
