Found this great example some month ago. Really looks like Mike's Fox hone.

The stone has a perfect size for honing of 5.7 x 3.2 ''.

Henk: It's really getting time now to solve the secret behind the purple stones.

Hope you have the chance for further investigations next spring!

The Lorraine Rouge (i have a similar St. Etienne that looks nearly the same) is my prefered Finisher at the Moment.
Does you feel very hard too? Giving a light polished edge after a higher number of strokes?

    Hi folks,

I recently got one hone of which I first thought it was a red "Pierre La Lune", but looking at this thread it became obvioes to me that it most likely is a a "La Lorraine:

    Wet:

To me it does not look like a Belgian Blue Whetstone.

    BBW:

Slurry comparison "La Lorraine(?)" [lefthand side] and BBW [righthand side]:

I also got this interesting barber hone last year or so, which has an identical structure:

They are quite hard and fast stones indeed!

    Cheers

Default La Rouge du Salm / Lorraine

    Hi,

I am currently writing a story about Belgian Natural Whetstones (47 pg). The description of La Dressante au Bleu, the older natural combos of La Dressante Upper Layer, La Veinette, La Petite Blanche and La Nouvelle Veine with a beautiful wine red color is observed. This color is also called "Lie de vin" or Maroon. Unfortunately, now modern Brazilian slate stones are glued on because the dark red stone has become rare.

The first picture is the backside of a La Veinette
The second one is the backside of a La Dressante au Bleu

@Margeja: Do you mean that The Lorraine Stones came from the same layer like the Bbw?

    Default Lorraine stones

Not from the same layer but pretty close. The layers are now exhausted. Only when Ardennes Coticules dig deeper Lorraine stones may come available again. My stones are from the Burton era. That was before 1980.

Do you think theres Hope that Ardennes Coticule will make experiments with the Lorraine?
I finished now about 12 Razors with it and im impressed of the stone, but its so hard to get a good Lorraine Hone for a reasonable price.

This is a ver good table, the first time that is see it, i didnt found it before.
Could i say theres a direct alliance between the Lorraine and the Belgian Blue?
I wonder where the abrasive effect with the Lorraine comes from, are there also Garnets the abrasive elements or silicium?
