Summarizing Piet and Margeja we may have a simple formular here that would fit for most (not all!) stones of this kind:
Fox hone = Goldfisch Wetzstein = Lorraine stone = Special BBW Layer ! Agreed?

I think it is mentioned at "coticule.be" that "La veine Lorraine" or "La rouge" or "Salm Rouge" is a purplish
BBW layer (with "garnets" but it is not a coti) between the coti layer "Les Petas" and the coti layer "L'Allemande"

    Kindest regards

    @gillaume:
Can you tell where the marking with the blue writing on the side with the size is coming from ? Was the stone already marked like this if you got it ?

If so, it seems to me if this mark is not that old i would mind....

Received the "Best Hone of the World" today, and as been thought and mentioned before it seems to be the same kind of Stone (Lorraine Rouge) as the Fox/Goldfisch Hones

    This stone :

Looks like a lot the cambrian green stone I got in a set of slurry stones, from aj_1001.

He said it grit was 10.000 and it seems to be right. Don't have my camera around, but I'll take pictures.

Hi Doosch, yes the stone was already marked. I bought it with the writings. Your"Best hone.." is magnificent!

ACtually , I have a problem with that stone, I lapped it to use it and I realized that the small dark lines you can see became nicks. The more I lapped the "bigger" it's becoming.
I think those small holes could be harmful for the edges of my razors. This is not so bad but the stone is really hard and it's not easy to make it smooth.

    Default French Hones

I also got one unknown stone from France today for a very nice price, seller told me that it might be around 1k using for kitchenknives...

My intention to buy was just the size of the other french hone i saw from Modine (Size around 15x7x2cm)
The more rectangular one (on the right from the Pierre de L'est) or shown in Post 34 in detail...

Also it had some identical sawmarks on the flattened sides...i could also identify smal glittering particles which i shurely confirm right now...

Iam also so shure this one is higher then 1k but did not have the time to test right now...

I am unsure about it because when beeing dry it looks more gray coloured but also with this glittering particles well visible...

When beeing wet it also looks as been mentioned from others like asphalt...

So what is it ? Posted this also at RazorandStone in the Special Stone Thread...

Nice! What is your secret to catch all those beauties?!

Seriously, I also think it's higher than 1k. Beveled edges, the size, the aspect, it's a stone made for razors. A special stone or La Lune!
