French Hones
Got this huge brick today....a very fine dark reddish/brownish/maroon coloured stone...Size is about 7x2x1,5inch...
after lapping colour moved from maroon coloured to a darker brown/red...it has has a specific pattern on the surface. Both sides got really dark red and glassy after lapping, it is like the surface and colour with a view on the surface of the Top is lighter coloured the sides are more compact and the colour quite darker...
Slurry is greyish first then it gets more violet...as you can see on the slurry pics...
trying to make some strokes on this one it is shure that is removes metal fast (fast cutting) and it leaves a near mirror finish after 8-15 strokes...
As you can see down on the left side of the third picture there is also a kind of colour change and a kind of crystal inclusion:
a very dense (in weight) and quite hard stone (not as hard as a CF comparable to other compact shist stones)
My idea was just that this one could fit in the French Hones Thread because there were several stones having some identical colours and properties...

There is color banding on this particular Fox /Goldfisch hone but no defined layering is present.

Nice stone! The sticker was glued to the wrong side of the stone (the good side with chamfered edges instead of the back side). So the previus owner had to get rid of it.......

French Hones
Got another one today i am very unsure about this one....it reminds me quite on the Lorraine Rouge like the Goldfisch/Fox Hone but its very homogenious in colour and material nearly no inclusions slurry is really red...its seems to be a schist or a fine sandstone
