The stones were shown to Bart and M. Lessuise from Ardennes Coticule and both agreed to say the stones were not coticules.
Antoine indeed often find those stones on flea markets and jumble sales near his place. (And so do members living in the same area).
We have no documentation nor quarries location, but we'd like (and hope) to find.

From my friend Google translator ;
"William told the truth and therefore also confirms a track from a rock south of France
, I even found the stones in a neighboring department
But I have not tested yet"
An interesting mystery. Ancient stones that work for razors but of unknown origin.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 127Got my ne Hone Yesterday, well, i thought it was NOS but it showed lil signs of use, no problem but i thought it was one of the greyish LaLune with Pyrite inserts (at the End i think this is only a TM and no Guarantee to get a Lorraine, a Vosgiene or whatever) but i was wrong, its an dark purple Lorraine
Perfect for me as is was searching for one as addition to my smaller Lorraine (in the last pic as comparison for the different colours), at the Moment i know nothing about the performance of the hone (although it seems a bit softer when i flattened it) but will write a short review after i used it a few times.
The Label of Manufrance isnt made of paper and glued like rubber on the stone.

Thanked: 127After a discussion in the german gut-rasiert.de Forum i had no Peace so i had to test it about one hour ago (in Germany its now 2 a.m.) and the Performance of the Stone was nearly as i expected, nearly no Autoslurry, good polish with cloudy background and a very keen edge, the HHT was on two of three Razors (Garantie Solingen & Wacker Facharbeit Special, both Solingen Silversteel) without Problems, on the third Razor (a Trud Watscha Inox) the HHT failed, but this is nothing new too me as it usually fails with my other stones too, although the Soviet gets a very nice edge.
In comparison to the red one i have the darker Stone is a bit softer, faster but with a less mirror-like finish.
Conditionally i would say that its around 10k, i emphasize Conditionally as a fast honing session with only three Razors hardly allow a reliable description.

@doorsch: thanks for the video, it taught me my Goldfisch actually is a French hone.

Thanked: 21Another unamed green stone(same family as the others?):210 mm (8 inches)by, 25 to 34 mm
same slurry:
Not enough time to finish lapping but still very smooth:tasks looks like ink!
A razor stone, no doubt about that, bought with a small coticule on paddle (which has been used upside down, I'll show you that..)
@Helge, very good catch, I like those red La Lune very much!Last edited by guillaume; 01-13-2015 at 10:16 PM.

Guillaume
Congrats on your new acquisition. Your unnamed green stone is a beautiful example of a green coticule, in a nice size. I have found that green variants tend to cut more slowly, which is why, again, in my experience, they tend to be larger than yellow coticules. I once had a 4 inch canary yellow coticule with manganese deposits (which by the way are the black dots and lines exhibited by your green coticule) which could turn slurry black within seconds. Having said that, I have had larger yellow coticules but with a grainy appearance to their surface which were very slow cutters. But I've never seen a fast cutting green one.

Another of the mostly "french" Special Stones, could be well a Vosgienne...however as mostly nice pattern, reddish slurry, green inclusions and very very fine.....
And as mostly all the others i got, from good old USA ;-)
