Thanked: 4249By the way it is not the letter F, its called a long S, it is not only from old french writtings but also english, Italian, spanish and more.
If you look it up every language has a set of rules about the uses of the long S. For example im posting 2 images of the rules for the Long S in french and in English.
I don't know however if there were a difference of pronunciation, still it is an interesting clue to help with the datation of vintage french documents.[/QUOTE]

Has anybody seen a complete label similar to this one? It’s a hard fine natural stone. Possibly French.

French Hones
Got another nice Lorraine Rouge Stone today!! It was sold in nearly the same wooden box as the Thuringian Stone i got sometime in the past....
It has the same cutted corners as this thuringian stone...I think its possible that these were sold from the same Company, though these stones do not own any label...

French Hones
Dont know if it was already written down, after checking several documents, the shortcut (M.P.O.P.) = Meules, Pierres, Outillage, Produits, is another one from Ghelfi, Birroleau & Cie (FGBC)....seems that these are older Stones which were sold unter the Company Name before as D. Giovannacci, L. & B. Ghelfi, the document is from 1935. It says Établissement Belle, Veuve Valentin Ghelfi, Propriétaire
Most of the documents from the "La Lune" stones are of newer age, the Priclist "Ferdi" found was from 1974 also there was a invoice from 1952.Last edited by doorsch; 12-09-2014 at 09:06 PM.

Two other shots for documenting purposes!!
in the beginning of my research back about a good year i often saw these "Special Stones for Good Razors" with the Manufrance label...which also brought up the idea to ask directly at Manufrance in concerns of the origin of the stones. This was also the time where the abbreviation FGBC was not known...
This is not my stone but it was Sold NOS in France, probably any one bought it here...so i am going to post the sellers shot with the Original Instructions which seems to have been delivered with the special stones to a certain time
I can read most of the text but i shurely appreciate if anybody could translate it here....███▓▒░░.RAZORLOVESTONES.░░▒▓███

Thanked: 116Sebastian, it's not a perfect translation but it says:
Warranty bulletin
The natural oil razor hone "La Lune" can't be compared to any other.
Its grain fineness, its mineralogical purity allow for a rational and perfect honing WITHOUT ANY DAMAGE FOR THE STEEL.
A rigorous selection of the raw material, originating from the best quarries, a specialized workforce, using millenia-old processes make this hone the UNCONTESTED LEADING BRAND in the WORLD MARKET.
