Surely vintage India Oilstones are worth more than $10. Just not for people who want to hone razors. I don't think the seller thought it was worth it to spend more time taking pics and describing it better. However you occasionly see this with e.g. Eschers as well, just one lousy pic.
The yellow is as smooth as glass remark is kind of funny. I wouldn't describe even my finest hone as smooth as glass but when you're comparing to 100 grit or a street tile a 1k may already feel as smooth as glass. That's why I never ask ebay sellers about the finess of their hones, I wouldn't know how to interpret their answers.
When a seller is offered a BIN he may get the better end of the deal but usually he will get the worse end and miss out on a lot of money. So I'm somewhat surprised he let you cancel the dealVery nice of him and good for you!

Seems that not only did you escape from a bad buy, but the seller updated their auction to be more accurate.
