Testing my luck with eBay....
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/181055059782?...84.m1497.l2649
Here is my latest purchase, I asked the seller to describe the surface texture they came back with " one side is very smooth, the other is extremely fine like silky smooth" after a couple more questions I made an offer.
The dark side also looks to have blue specks, and I'm pretty convinced its a glued Coti combo.
What do ya think? I may have just bought a big chisel hone. lol
Eric.

Thanked: 1184I never guess right on these things but I do look around at the banter. I found this until you get some replies.http://straightrazorpalace.com/hones...oti-combo.html
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Thanked: 4249Looks like a manmade sharpening stone to me, but you never know! Did you ask if it smells like oil?

Re: Testing my luck with eBay....
I know there is a chance of it being an India combo, ill be dissapointed if it is but it was a calculated risk. I didnt ask if it smelled like oil, to me it looked to clean to have been oiled (suppose it could be unused)
Does anyone else see the blue speckles on the dark side?
Eric.

Kinda looks like the norton indias to me.
Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

Re: Testing my luck with eBay....
Would anyone describe their India oilstone as extremely fine or almost silky smooth?

No and you know what's funny? I bought mine thinking I was getting a good deal (10 bucks) on a fine razor hone (it was sight unseen)...come to find out this hone is more for chisels and the like...Oh well...I ended up giving it to my brother who has a set of throwing knives; maybe he'll get some use out of it!!
