Sounds very familiar to my experiences when I started using that progression.
The 10K, imo, will go further than I first thought.
I increased with 10-15 more strokes with a super light pressure after I was at a stage where I thought I had gotten the most from it.
That pushed it to a higher level for me.
Still, i always go to a finisher after the Chosera progression.Bjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

Thanked: 2591I know many people with the cracking problem and it seems that the issue is how the stone was soaked and then dried.
I do not soak mine, just splash and go, but it dries at room temp for a long as it takes. I am already more than half trough and have no problems with it. I also mounted mine on a base just in case it cracked, that was when it was new, 3 years a go.Stefan

Thanked: 13245Thanks B will give it some more cuddle time hehehe, and I for sure will not only judge it by this razor, as it is a finicky biatch..
My thought was, if I can get it to shave smooth any other one would be easy

Glen,
You noted in your first post that both stones came with the "red cleaning bricks" and that they would probably never be seen again. I bought a 1K some time ago and it came with the brick. I had no idea what it was, assumed it was a slurry stone or something. Since I don't read Japanese, the box provided no clues. So, what he heck is it??Silence is Golden, but duct tape is Silver.

Thanked: 13245@Don
You can use it as a slurry stone with the 1k if you need to do some "Serious" restoration on the bevel (I tend to do that on my DMT), but they are either a 400 or 600 grit block (can't remember at the moment) and designed to "Clean/Condition" the surface of the stone ie: clean off the swarf and glaze and expose new grit..
When you are using these to sharpen Tools and Knives this is much more of an issue then how we use them...
These are more of a "Prep Stone" we tend to use stuff a bit different then other shapeners do, I know huh I think we tell people that quite often on here hehehe Honing razors is really not the same as Sharpening Knives and Tools...Last edited by gssixgun; 02-25-2013 at 04:31 PM.

Thanked: 0Hey guys I'm new here, and hope I'm not butting in too much, but are the Chocera glass stones as good as the normal Chocera's. They are a fair bit cheaper and you won't stain the linen with the slurry as much, they also look a bit thicker than the Shapton glass stones although a bit dearer.
Having a different formulation, the surface might not craze so much.

Thanked: 13245Not really sure, doing just some quick looking they are calling them ceramic stones,, I would have to try them to know for sure..
I do know for sure that the other Zwilling stones that Naniwa makes are actually Naniwa SS and they work just fine on razors they are in 220/1 and 3/8... I see the 220/1 on that website for $79.99 I do not see the 3/8 but Amazon used to stock both of them...Last edited by gssixgun; 03-01-2013 at 01:43 PM.

Dunno what to think Glen. I'm not going to watch the vid for 11 minutes to find out. At this stage of the game honing ain't much of a 'spectator sport' for me. The guy that posted the link must have just right clicked on a google search (copy link location) and pasted it in the text box. He didn't actually go to the site and copy and paste and that is why there is all that verbiage in the link. PITA and I don't copy/paste links into my toolbar unless I know where they originate from. Had he gone to the site and copy/pasted it would be a one liner and maybe clickable.

Thanked: 2591My guess is they are the same stuff, but rebranded and with different color
I have never seen anything like those stones anywhere on the web, even the japanese sites that sell all kinds of synthetics
Henckels is banking big time on Harners rep as a master knife maker, the collaboration is very profitable for both sides there. Nothing bad in that just the "new" stones probably are not so new .Last edited by zib; 03-01-2013 at 04:07 PM.
