Thread: Using an Escher

Jimmy and Wolfpack, Neil made a similar comment in his 'conversation' with Obie. They (stones, razors, what have you) link us to the past, we link them to the present, and together we go off into the future. A beautiful sentiment.
Well, how about my thread?
Here's what I've learned directly, and indirectly.
Some Eschers will, some Eschers won't, some Eschers need a lot of loving and, some Eschers don't...
Just joking.
The Escher is a hone for beginners, and it's edge is inferior to the Gokumyo. And probably the value of my new stone has just dropped in half.I love the smell of shaving cream in the morning!

Well the barber manual said it is ideal for beginners because you cannot overhone and they will be less likely to damage edges. That is not to say that being heavy handed with honing on an escher couldn't do some damage to razor and stone. The author was assuming proper honing I think.
I don't know if I would say "inferior". The Gokomyo 20k is a great finisher but so are eschers, some j-nats, some coticules, the naniwa 12k ..... if all I could have was any one of those I wouldn't feel deprived.
