Aw well, you can't have everything and no matter really if it shaves well as you say. My W&B near wedge has a similar kind of bevel to yours and it shaves. My other near wedge has a narrow pretty even bevel, go figure it's a puzzle.

No worries. At least now I know to be patient with the bevel setting! :P
Got those scales on mine, btw. I posted pics on my "Huge Joseph Elliot Blade" thread. Love the way it turned out.
