    Default Honing and pressure

what do you guys think about this?
I was honing a C-Mon Wedge and for some reason was thinking about the pressure applied while doing this. I grabbed my Postal scale set my towel and hone on the scale and zeroed it out.
The first pic is the towel and stone zeroed, the second I sprayed water on the hone (showing the added weight) and then tried to snap pictures while I honed to capture the weight applied .
Maybe not the best way to control your pressure, but at least I have an idea now at a quick glance. - honing and snapping pic's with my cell was hard enough, looking at the pressure applied while honing is probably not much better. But I was trying to see what kind of pressure I was applying. Sorta like tapping your head and rubbing your belly at the same time..........
Not something I intend to add to my routine, but thought it might or could be helpful to someone

IM curious, did you see if your pressure was even going both ways on the stone or did you see if it varied a lot? Haha, I wouldn't be a ble to concentrate while taking pics so it wouldn't do much good for me, but interesting. Thanks for sharing

It would appear that I snapped a pic on the return stroke both times dam! haha! Maybe I should get the wife to snap the photo's instead? lol
You know it did seem to stay around the same pressure, give or take a few ounces both ways. definitely made me lighten up, as you can see on the second pic.
I think it would be interesting to see what pressure other's are applying - I know it's talked about, but the common answer is light to no pressure, maybe someone could train them selves with a weight scale, you know the whole muscle memory thing.....

That is a very interesting experiment. You could of course video it for you to study after the fact as well. Perhaps even doing it in short segments and taking some notes on what you could see and feel on the edge as you ended each segment.

I might do a video..........I'll refrain from making any comments about what I'm doing in the video. Once I post it I'll add comments to the post.
Probably be a little bit until I can make a vid, maybe next week if there's still an interest....

A vid of the scale with the numbers facing away from you while you hone will probably be the most honest system, and even then you are going to find that you will try and get really light on the hone
This experiment has been done a few times here and also on Coticule be IIRC, I never thought of the Vid and the numbers being hidden from the honer until now

BTW you have to weigh the razor, so you can figure the weight of the razor vs just the pressure

yeah, but he's using his left hand. that's just crazyhoning!

I has to get me to quit adding pressure at the end of the stroke...maybe flashing lights would help, that scale got an alarm feature?

Feel i got, focus...well not so much hey look a squirrel.

Good idea, I will face the numbers away from me, that should give me a better idea without the distraction of the numbers going all over the place. Believe it or not I did weigh the razor, and zero it out, but I didn't zero it when I sprayed the hone with water, it added .4 oz.. Guessing this would be in material because that's something that will change as I hone & reapply.

Maybe there's a way to invert the video, so you off handers can comprehend my awesomeness. totally messing with you .....
I think an electrical shock would be more effective

I would like to see a measurement of "firm pressure" that Lynn uses in his 1k bevel setting videos. As a 265lb gorilla, I am guessing my firm may be different from others. I seem to be getting things to work as I am doing them, but am still curious what "firm" feels like to others. During bevel setting, I use what I consider quite a bit of pressure. I would not be surprised if it registered in 10 pounds or more during my circles but that is really a guess at best.
