    this is ridiculous!

I've taken to back to 1K, and no matter what i try i just can't seem to sort it! it can't be that hard can it? I'm beginning to think i need to have my stones lapped, as maybe they aren't as effective when they are straight out the packet?

    Any ideas?

I'm a rank beginner but I believe you may have just answered your own question.

Every stone I've purchased has needed to be lapped as demonstrated by using a pencil grid and lapping with a DMT325 (course). The pencil marks are never removed uniformly which I believe shows the stone was in need of lapping.

    Good luck.

its not so much the un-evenness, as when i use the marker pen on the bevel , the ink gets removed all the way down the length of the blade. what I'm asking is this ; when you buy a hone, say its a 1k, is i really 1k? or do you need to lap it down a bit to get to an area that is really 1k?
