Default Gokumyo 20k or CrOx to refresh?

    Good day chaps.

In between honing to refresh an edge most of us like to use cr ox or some type of paste to bring out the best in our razors.
My question is does anyone completely do away with pastes and just break out the Gokumyo or other high grit finisher instead? I tend to use a paddle strop with cr ox because its quick and easy, and only use my Gokumyo when the razor needs maintenance honing (10-15 laps 10k Superstone , 20 laps 20k Gokumyo.) I'm going to experiment with this and see how it goes, just wanted to get some feedback if anyone's tried it?

I have the Gokumyo and I think it is the finest finisher I have ever used. I have CrO also but simply don't need it anymore. A few of my razors seem to like diamond paste but that's just a very few with very hard steel.

    Same here.
The pasted strops I have are now used only for my kitchen knives.
On my razors the Suehiro Gokumyo 20K reigns supreme.

Is it overkill to do both? The last half a dozen or so razors I finished on the G20 I probably stropped about 10 strokes on CrOx linen before hitting the leather, and I'm getting my best shave ever.

no pastes needed at all, my bench stops have been sitting in the corner unused for many months now.

For me it's overkill. Like everyone else, I find it the best finisher I've used to date. It has quenched my thirst for hones. Since getting it, I haven't bothered with my Jnats. For a refresh I sometimes drop to my 12k for a couple passes then to the 20k for about ten more. No more pastes.

With practice you will come to realize that after a quality finisher pastes are not adding anything to the edge.
