That's a cool stone. For some reason I thought it was from the ol Preu mine but I could be wrong. Seems like I've seen it before on coticule.be.
I stay on my cotis on water longer than most have recommended above. I don't count strokes but I'd guess somewhere between 75-100 on a 6x2.
As for hybrid vs yellow, my edges are notably keener off the hybrid side, especially when I take the time to make a hybrid on hybrid slurry. But as always, YMMV

It may be from ol preu, deffinetly not from regene or the new one, not sure of its name. I'm not sure where this stone came from other then Belgium.. I only plan on doing water only laps as I have a distaste for slurry. Solely a finisher.. It's a small 3x3.25 but really that's sufficient and I enjoy smaller stones. I will work in sets of 25 then to finish..

It's funny you've noticed that the hybrid side delivers a keener edge, while pithor says he didn't notice anything... I will have to test as well and chime in at a later date..

And last but not least thank you. I saw it and something inside my head said "you need this Scott" and I got it.. At the very least if I don't like it I can re sell/ trade.

I've heard other guys say they can't tell a difference between the two. Lots of different variables going on; different face, different whiskers, different techniques, etc.

Yeah that size is plenty big enough to work with comfortably. Circles should be a breeze.
I've had 8-10 les lats, most were from the ol Preu mine and two from regne. The coticule layer can vary quite a bit in hardness and speed but the hybrids seem to be very consistent.
IIRC Henk said the hybrid is made up of quartz that's less than 1 micron in size. The hybrid can be very slow on water so keep that in mind.
I think you'll really like it. There's no magic involved but they're cool stones and are easy on the eyes.
    Enjoy!

The mottled layer is combined with either one of two yellow layers, that perform slightly differently. I don't know about each layer's consistency though, I haven't tried that many Les Latneuses.

I am of the general opinion that there isn't all that much difference in finishing capabilities among coticules, least of all in terms of keenness. I base this on using a whole bunch of different coticules over a long time, ending up with a bunch of razors that I have no idea of which coticule I finished them on, turning it effectively into half a blind test ('half' because I have no way of verifying definitive hones used). There even are some edges finished on my tiny Thüringer stone; for the love of me I can't remember which hones for what razors.

I do sometimes notice ever so slight differences in shaves, but it is much more likely that those are due to skin variations, lather, technique, good day/bad day, etc. as these are not consistently the same variations with the same razors. The impact of finishing is highly overrated in my opinion, and thoroughly over-analysed.

Really, the more I use them, the less differences I notice, and the less I count strokes.

And indeed, no magic here. Just acquired and improving manual skill and dexterity. If you want to see magic, you should see me tie my shoes. 5 seconds, blindfolded.

Does anyone know what is in these hybrid layers?(as they are called) I've heard Quartz and BBW. That doesn't look very blue to me lol.

In Henk Bos essay grinding and sharpening he says the hybrid is made up of chlorite and Quartz that's less than 1 micron in size. I don't have a link to it now but you can google it.

Thanks, suspect just from appearance one side will be creamy and the other a harder glassy sensation. The other veins I've tried are la grise and la dressante prefering the pink dressante for speed and edge quality.

    I cannot read German..
