I have been using this Engels Argo to play around with some different and unusual techniques but didn't wind up with much success so....
I took it and went back to what I know...
Bevel on Norton Washita No.1
Flipped to "fine" side and then
Finished on my big ole chunk of black Arkansas
Stropped on the Washita 50 times
Linen & horse butt and.....
A 10 out of 10 shave
One multi directional pass with a little touch up for total BBS.
When I put the Aqua Velva Blue Ice on right after the menthol didn't even burn. Nothing, nope, not even a little burn.
A perfect shave quick and painless.
THAT gentlemen is the moment when you know you nailed it.
Thanks for looking. What a curse be a dull razor; what a prideful comfort a sharp one

I've been out of town all week and arrived home this afternoon and decided to hit the hones. It was a nice way to unwind after a long week. [emoji1]

I've been learning a lot about novaculite honing over the past month or so and have had some successes and some setbacks - all part of the learning process. A fellow member here, Steel, has been a big help for me with excellent advice and knowledge. I made a huge step forward today as I was able to take a newly cleaned up flea market razor from bevel set to absolutely wonderful shaving on just two hones.
I use a vintage Washita and translucent Arkansas, the blade was a 6/8 Torrey. Stropped on linen then leather. The result was a spectacular edge that really opened my eyes to the potential of these stones. Very sharp yet extremely comfortable, quite a combination.
As I was shaving I realized that the Washita, the Ark, the Torrey, the strop (Rose's Barber Supply House), and the linen fire hose were all found here in NH at the same flea market over that last year or so.

Way to go Mrchick! I don't like to hone just one either. I like to hone a few at a time. That is a beautiful razor!

Last night I was testing a hone that I was gifted by christian1. It's a Lynn ideal mounted to a piece of wood. It's approximately 6"X1". The razor is a craftsman 9207. I did a progression of 1000/4000/8000 norton and an approximately a 12000 c-nat then used the Lynn ideal hone with shave lather. I first started with water but it wasn't refining the edge any better than the c-nat. But with the lather it was slicker and was giving a lot better edge. The bevel is smaller in the middle on one side and larger on the other, due to a slight warp to the blade, but I didn't want to remove any more steel since it wasn't getting any better. But it still shaves very well. It gave a very close smith shave. I'm still learning honing but getting better every time.
Thank you for looking.

I have been researching them. I have a nice Norton translucent...............
I've also got a black. I was hoping Longhaultanker would have had a chance to make it buy Dans but he couldn't do it.Last edited by engine46; 09-17-2017 at 09:14 PM.
