Urghle!

There... I did done it, my politically correct word choice is over.

Two hones today, Coticule and Shapton glass 16K.

I'm happy to report I seem to be regaining my muscle memory... My boker was popping so many hairs, the wife complained about having to drag out the vaccum cleaner again!

On the downside... I got all excited when I saw those razors Glen was going to hone. He's got three of my razors.... only.... I can't remember which ones I sent him!

Completely switched out the hones for this little number.. This is a Livi RLW34 SS mini


I decided to go the most sure route I know of for razors that have been having chipping issues

Broke out the complete set of Naniwa SS 1-3-5-8-10-12 and started with one layer of tape, these are so nice and soft with cutting steel they are often the ticket for finicky razors..

I could see a few different bevel in the edge, so I evened it all up on the 1k using a light slurry and moved up in the progression, using a light slurry on each hone, then diluting out after 10 laps
The edge was progressing well, I was using every arrow in the quiver to stop the micro chipping too, even going to far as to do a light TNT after each hone then bring back the edge on the next one..

All was good through the 8k, then boom two of the microchips popped out as I got to clear water .. I had even gone so far as to buff and polish the face of the blade on this since it had water spots. That helped take out the deep grind marks
Out of the seven or so chips in came here with, I had eliminated all but two,,

I looked at it for a bit under the 60x and back tracked, lightly killed the edge and went back to the light slurry on the 8k brought the edge back slowly then stopped...

Whew no chips

Added another layer of tape and went to the 10k then finally the 12k I had made it to the end and had no chips the secondary micro-bevel was solid .. Stropped on leather w/ CeOx then Linen and Leather

The other razors today were all fun, this one was a little bugger

Thinking on it now, I bet the Nakayama with a nagura slurry after the 5k using a Secondary micro-bevel would have worked too

How did you guys do on the hones today ????

Did an amazing job.

New razor today for me in Show and Tell. Tomorrow the hones (will post new pic) and a shave....I hope I can sleep tonight...seriously.

No shave yet but the little Lockwood Brothers is now terrifyingly sharp. No issues with this razor, which is good for me. Anyone who has honed a smiling blade with a slightly hollow (or full hollow) spine knows how easy it is compared to honing a made up smile. Spine on hone, entire edge on hone. Still have to shave though, so I shouldn't say anymore.
This photo is taken at my honing station (1/3 of the kitchen counter space). SWMBO was at a yoga class.

That Lockwood looked really nice when I checked it out yesterday, gotta love a nice sweet smile

This part of honing is very hard to explain. Thank-goodness for mentors and meet-ups that can help make sense of what you just said. Teaching feel and adjusting to faux smiles is not easy , even when in person.

No new honing action around here, but I just recieved notice my new Naniwa SS 12K has arrived in town. Delivery is sheduled for tomorrow.

That Zulu Grey sure looks nice..... hmmmm.

And...... did someone say "pie"?!?!?!
