    Mike,

According to Alex Gilmore, that tree ring pattern was shared by Narutaki and Nakayama, so maybe that 'thins the herd' a little when it comes to identifying the origin of the stone. Of course, nothing is certain with Jnats.

This is a re-hone of a Towa Scheon Burg frameback I got from Stefan and carried with me to France for a couple of weeks - it's a good shaver and I wanted nice shaves on the trip. When I bought it, I asked Stefan if he used tape and he said yes, one layer.

The tape in the image though is 1 mil DuPont Kapton, a wear-resistant and wonderful tape for razor honing. It's actually 1.2 mil and the adhesive makes it 2.7 mil total, but still less than half the thickness of most electrical tapes. An added bonus is that the razor feels more normal on the hones, and you can strop with it in place if you wish.

I re-set the bevel on a Shapton Pro 2k, then Shapton 5k/Shapton HC Glass 8k followed by koma nagura and tomo nagura on the finisher. I used one piece for the 2k stone, and the same piece for the 5k and 8k stones, and another for the finisher.

    Et Voila! A great edge.

    Cheers, Steve

Wow! I was eyeing Garrets iromono kitta for some time. Hope it performs as good as it looks.

Steve and Mike, your jnats make my heart flutter, I'm just getting into natural stones and I can see why so many get sucked into that rabbit hole...

Garret has been very kind to me. Truth is I have used 2 of his stones and both are wonderful. My Nakayama blew my doors off. Iromono is in the same category. His Naguras are just as good. I have been tempted by the bay. I cant see buying from an unknown when Garret has took the time to teach. He says getting into those khan rings of those hones shown has special powers when you hone with the lines. He said it more eloquently and precise. Yes the Iromono was a treat to hone on. But as all gentlemen know I must return his baby. Thus the pictures before it heads home.
Your only as good as your last hone job.

Some old razor I found at flea market.

The star of today's show a combination coticule. Set the bevel on the coticule with slurry then proceeded to Belgian Blue and back to the Coticule side for the final finish.

Sweet feeling edge is passing all my tests. The shave to come

The shave was superb. Just the right combination of smooth and sharp. Not bad for the first go at it.

GLAMOUR SHOTS! Here is a NOS C-mon on it's maiden honing. No tape from bevel set to final finish.

Final finisher is an awesome yellow green thuringian. Similar to Richards Light Green Escher. There is a difference. One is a faster cutter than the other.

A great start Mrchick keep at it!

    Hone Of The Day

Had a little bit of a frown to get out of the HESS razor but after I got that out these two razors were a joy to hone.
