Did you buy this coticule "new", or did you get it "vintage" on ebay for example ?
Whatever it is, it is a beautiful stone. Congrats sir!
Cheers, Steve

I missed a nice Sunday shave, because I failed to set the bevel on this blade yesterday and then spent the entire day travelling across Europe today. I sure managed to pack a travel set!
My Sunday evening honing was nearly ruined, when one of the nagura decided to spit out a grain of sand into the slurry, but luckily I caught it before it did any damage.
All tests checked out OK, shave in the morning.
The gear:
- Greaves wedge 6/8"
- Nakayama Asagi Kan koppa
- Asano naguras, Botan/Tenjyou/Mejiro
My God, that's almost depressing...
It will happen ocassionally. Sometimes I am sure the bevel is OK, but then in the end it's just not where it needs to be. On this razor, I dropped back to my La Veinette coticule on slurry, that straightened her right up.
Now the sand in Mikawa nagura can really ruin your day. I can usually feel it, it will scratch the surface of the stone when it appears, then I just use my loupe to check and poke it out. The scratch was there this time as well, but only for the shortest moment before it fell out. Luckily I ran my fingers through the slurry....
I just shaved and heading off to work. Catch ya'll later!

This one gets hone of the month from me. Anyone ever tried putting a shaving edge on one of these? The blade is some kind of alien grade steel of some kind. Oh, the gymnastics I had to perform to get this one mostly ready! :rofl2:
Still needs some work at the toe. With tape, without, I tried everything to get this one sticky on my thumb at N 1k. Sheesh!!!
I'm just now taking it to my Mad Suita, or as I call it, coticule of steroids times 10.

I just have to say, I had some reservations about trying to shave with this thing after the hell it put me through trying to get it shave ready, I have to say, I'm very very impressed with this big monster of a straight razor. It's a little heavy and thin where you hold it but it cuts with the best of them all day long. She even sliced a small piece of my chin off. So we could get acquainted I guess...lol! I like them because their different and you can take them apart, I love things you can take apart. The little inset brass screw on mine I stripped though trying to take it apart, sure it will be easy to fix though. I can see the edge staying on this forever for as long as it took me to get it there..:rofl2:
Today I was curious if this hard C135 razor would make my Shobudani Asagi Goma Awasedo cry. Nope Hone won. Mikawa Nagura progression. Yeah I had the afternoon off[emoji12]

A dear frend of mine , send me this NOS Robert Claas 217 - That belong to his grandfather . It was never used .
Such a perfetly made razor - double stabiliser , smile , micro bevell .
One of the finest steels , that ive ever shaved ,with .
Honed on Suehiro 1- 3 K , La Loraine and finisher on this ancient Jnat - ultra hard stone , and very agressive cutter .
Ulta fine also . It is a strange stone - the gomas seeds , i can feel almost on 2 or 3 places under the blade , but it doesnt seems , to affect the edge . It have good suction and it gave every time perfect edge , despite the gomas . Weird stone - exelent and ultra fast finisher .
Work with all kinds of steels , perfectly .

Tom, that Lancets amazing edge finally gave out, did it?

The hearty CDN whiskers took their toll no doubt. Was a wee tuggy when it left my den. ;)
Tom's loupe showed a wee issue on the heel of the Gilchrist as well and in true Texas style he offered to true it up for me while he had it. Clearly I don't use the heel of the blade much as what was there would have been felt against the skin.
Time for a Friday shave then off to see my daughter perform
:beer1:
It was the toe of the Gilchrist and the same in the middle of the Lancet.
Sparkly and chippy??? Attachment 257734
5 finished this week back out Monday morning, no issues although the whole batch were ineed of a complete bevel reset so 1K Chosera up through the progression Chosera 1K, 3K, 5K, Snow White 8K Naniwa 12K finally Suehiro Gokumyo 20K.
I refreshed a Torrey on a Naniwa 12k and Thuringian bout this morning.

I got this SR Drescher from the German bay about a year ago. It had a visible chip in the heel. I've discussed this blade in other threads. Three times I have killed the edge, thought I set a bevel, and finished on my coticule. Each time I shaved, I was severely disappointed and finished the shave with the daily driver. Not so today...Attachment 257834
Reset the bevel on the King, honed on the Belgian with milk slurry diluting to water, finished on the coticule with 150+ x-strokes on water. I now know what weight of blade pressure feels like. Here's the proof...

So smooth. I've had edges provided by Glen and Vasilis. Maybe not quite like their's, but close. And this one was mine...
Just hanging out doing a little dilucot on this little DD Satin edge staring at the forum and there may of been beer involved.

Honed up this GEORGE WOSTENHOLM & SONS rattler last night.
As always , Sheffield steel is a doddle to hone up.
Its my brothers but before I hand it back I'm gonna shave over a weeks worth of growth off with it.
This might just call for the Acqua Di Parma treatment :)

Shobu Tomae? Iromono?
I bet it's a speed demon...
I honed up the iwasaki tamahagane razor that's being sent out today. I started with a fresh bevel, went to the Ohira suita, nakayama kiita, then finally finished with a full tomo progression on the maruka iromono. This razor took the best edge I've ever achieved. Denvernoob, you are in for an amazing shave!

Honed a pair of 13/16 Cape 1000s scaled by Alfredo (Doc226) in Lava Flow Kirinite. Bevel set with a Shapton Pro 2k on one and 5k on the other, then 8k, koma and tomo nagura followed by 20 circles and 20 x-strokes on clear water.
The stone is fairly new to me, no markings and not much skin though it does have a date and I assume either a name or initials scratched into the back. The date is 1959.1.26, which if Showa would be January 26, 1985. It's hard but not super hard, dense, and not quite where I want to be on slurry (though it shaves smoothly), but it's also silly smooth so during testing, clear water strokes got me where I want to go. I have high hopes for it because like many of my best stones, it looks like mud!
Cheers, Steve
I just got this Wester Bros razor and since I don't have any synthetic hones I was worried the Arkenstones wouldn't cut the "Manganese" steel. No worries-No problem. The Washita with a slurry set the bevel in no time flat and then I cleaned up the Washita And with just plain hone oil smoothed everything out. Soft>Hard>Surgical Black and it was ready to go. Shaved with it and I forgot how good a shave can be. (Thanks scouthikerdad). Very smooth, close, irritation free shave. Perfect 10/10!
(If you look close you can see the Hard Arkansas is slightly translucent on one end. Never noticed that until this picture.)
A nice slow leisurely start to Monday a nice old Wade & Butcher wedge 2 layers of tape set a nice looking bevel finished on the SG 20K should deliver a fine shave for the new owner.

Those are beautiful frame backed razors, and that Lecoutre could very well be one of his "Infernal Tempre", many of those one have patterned steel and say are a Damascus type steel, or they just put a pretty pattern on the blade to make it look that way. The one's I've honed, sometimes never seem to grip on your thumb pad they way you'd expect, but are nonetheless stellar razors IME...and that is a nice one, beautiful Swiss frameback.
