Really like your Tiger scales Modine, are those maple?

Thank you sir, I have no idea what kind of wood it is. It's vintage you could tell by the patina on the pins. The wood grain has a cat's eyes effect "chatoyancy" when moved. I had been hunting for a razor like this for some time for my own collection. I am happy.

I decided to touch up my Unwin and Rodgers Sheffield circa 1865 with some tomo slurry left over from another hone. I haven't shaved with it in a while so I stropped it and tested the edge, which was still pretty good, but decided to flog a touch up out of that slurry.

It is incredibly well ground for a razor of this vintage, and the bevels are microscopic. I bought it unknown off the 'Bay in a Victorian 'shave box'. The scales were shot so since the razor was in good shape, I had some honey horn shoes made for it by Alfredo Gil. IIRC, Unwin and Rodgers made mostly knives, scissors, and the like and only made razors near the end of the company's existence in 1868. I've only seen one other.

Unwin and Rodgers are also those imaginative folks that brought you the knife pistol...

Swedish steel ends up on my Chinese Stone for a finish, they tend toward a very hard steel and this Stone puts a sweet polish on them..

That Dannemora Engstrom looks healthy. Sweet shavers.

Got a couple of Bengalls in the mail yesterday. This one seems never to be honed before. Naniwa Pro 1k and then on to this Les Latneuses and a long nice session of dilutions.
Hone on and post on!

No pictures I'm afraid... see previous posts for the hone and razor.

I honed my Boker King Cutter 5/8" full bellied hollow on the Jnat and got one of the best shaves I've ever had with a straight! Then I foolishly looked at the bevel with my 40X loupe. Eeeak, it looked dreadful... chips, pits, you name it! So I dragged out the 1K Naniwa and worked my way back up to the 8K hone. Then I switched to the Jnat and did about 40 laps with full diamond nagura slurry (I don't know if I mentioned it, but I got a very nice diamond nagura with my Jnat from Garret) and then diluted the slurry over the next 40 laps... I cannot wait to give it the full shave test... my last shave/test started with my lathering up some Pears clear bath soap. I did it to just to soften the beard... and then I thought, why not try a stroke or two with that razor.... To make a long story short, I never used my shave soap or my brush!

So... I've taken the blade through it's steps from bevel set to final Jnat finish and I'm really looking forward to the test shave.

I know everyone harps on the bevel set portion of honing.... and it's true.... you can't get a decent edge unless you *set* the bevel properly. But, once you do set the bevel, everything that follows is easy peasy.

Hone on my friends !!!

Nothing special here, just my boring old W&B and little rose rock coti.
But today I did a quick edge refresh with oil, the first time I've used it on this stone. Looking forward to the shave tomorrow, and will comment if it's any different to water.

My first jnat!

I like the path of least resistance so I started off refreshing pro honed (Niel Miller) razors. I then started pyramid honing razors that I let slip and finally bevel setting and learning gymnastic honing for ones that just wont play ball. All done with Naniwa synthetics. I brought a purple Welsh slate as a toe dip into the murky waters of naturals and so it goes.

A lovely Nakayama kiita.

I used a koma, diluted 3 times and finished on a few ultra light laps with just water. Coming off a Naniwa 10k the shave was smoother and keener. I definitely have a long way to go but im really enjoying this natural malarkey!
