Re-honed a nice little Hayashi Diamond Western kamisori and finished on a fine razor kiita. It's a tiny thing, about 11/16 with a 55mm edge and an almost perfect MAB razor. But as you might expect of Japanese steel, it can mow down a barb wire fence in short order.

    Cheers, Steve

Some days it's just a real pleasure to hone. Here is a 7 day set of Heljestrand 13/16+ framebacks in tortoise shell scales. As near to NOS as you will see. These razors still had their factory edge and no wear on the spines (backs). I added a layer of tape to protect them. Finished on a Suehiro Gokumyo 20K. They took an amazing edge.

This mornings honing session.. This razor was popping hairs off the shelf but i needed to clean the edge up.

When i looked at the DePew this morning for the first time under the loupe, 60x showed some small chips and what looked exactly like a faucet ding going about a 3rd of the way into the bevel right under the second 'e'. Well the rest of the edge cleaned up very quick but i spent a good amount of time and 3 tape changes getting that ding out of there. I spent maybe 1 hour on the Chosera, took two cups of coffee.

I usually start with slurry on the Chosera and dilute every 25 laps or so. I read about that here a few weeks back (outback??).. it works for me. I do the same on the 4k.. but then just use water on the 8 and 12.

After the ding was gone this thing was doing what god intended for it to do.. remove hair from skin in a very efficient manner. Ive abandoned the TPT and just shave a little thigh with the entire length of the blade to check my bevel. That TPT fooled me a few times. Fool me twice..

Off the stones i stropped 50 on linen, 100 on bridle.. then 20 laps on Crox, 20 laps on Feox, then another 50 on linen, 100 on bridle.. 30 palm strops and i was off. Had a little redness on the neck but it was gone in about 20 minutes. The head shave was nice. No irritation at all. During the week i put an extending mirror behind me in the razor den. If i angle it just right i can see the back of both sides of my head in the main mirror, combined with a folding mirror on the right of the sink that i can angle.

    Its like a shaving funhouse.

I dont usually post honing porn but slurry and swarf on a 4k is such a beautiful sight.
