Thanked: 433I have the full Welsh set from AJ on ebay, the Dragon's Tongue is about 6k and the LM is probably 8k-10k and the black one above that. My black Welsh hone likes Smiths honing solution (non oil) and I can get a very nice edge from that one. They are fun to play around with

Thanked: 481That's about what I'm hoping for. I'd rather the DT be closer to 8, and the LM 10 or so, but it sounds like I'll be happy with them when they come in.

Thanked: 481Yea, naturals arent known for uniformity so it's a little hit and miss. I informed AJ they were for razor honing and requested he select some that are at the finer end of their range if possible. We'll see what happens.
Even if they don't improve from the 8k it wouldn't be fair to condemn the stones. Glen I am not, so if they don't perform the most likely cause will be my own hands. Same scenario with the Swaty. It wasn't the hone, it was me.

Thanked: 433The black stone is VERY hard so I've never used slurry with that one and it also seems the more I use it, the glassier and finer it gets. The LM can be slurried easier and has a real nice feel and reminds of a Thuringian in feedback (but not as fine) I haven't tried it with honing solution or oil yet
