    Default It passes HHT ... Is it shave ready ?

    Received this fat Henkotsu for assessment. It had been honed & stropped. I did a full shave with it.

    What kind of shave did it give me ? What can you tell from the pic ?

    What is the air speed velocity of an unladen swallow ?

    Just guessing but I say a good shave. The different colour on the edge is the harder steel.

    Although maybe there is a chip at bottom of picture. Hard to tell.

    I don't understand this. Are you suggesting that this is layered steel?

    I'm not an expert on interpreting the photos but if I saw that through my microscope I would return to the stones. It doesn't look like a good edge. It looks unclean, wavy and has at least one tiny chip.

    I can see microchips so not going to be a good shave IMO

    What side we looking at there OZ? Looks dull for being freshly honed. Finished on Jnat?
    Gave up on HHT long ago. Looks maybe like bevel isn't there from the shadow on the edge

    Well Oz is saying its a Japanese kamisori. Which is typically layered.
