We have succeeded! This particular razor is now shave ready. What a bitch! However, I have learned a great deal from all of you, and especially you Glen. Without your help and guidance, I would have given up on this razor a long time ago. Now tomorrow, we get to try it out. We'll see if our efforts have paid off.
Again, Thank You everyone!!!Semper Fi !

John, how did the test shave go?
Smarter than I look or, not as dumb as I look. Whichever you prefer.

Not so good. This thing seemed like it was shave ready but when I lathered up and took one stroke, I knew it was not ready. It left hair (WTG) and when I tried (XTG), it just seemed to drag and pull. At this point, I'm perplexed on what my next steps will be. I'm going to have to regroup and think of a different strategy. The blade is sharp, just not where I want it. Thanks for asking. I appreciate it!

Thanked: 13249Back to the 1k and re-start
You can futz around in the middle and try and pull it together, but honestly until that bevel set is able to shave, you need to stay down in that grit area..

So everyone, I had the blade evaluated by an expert and we have come to the conclusion that the spine will not support (too thin) this razor getting a good bevel or sharpening up to a shave ready condition. I mean we could take some drastic measures to get this thing shave ready but sometimes you have to cut your losses and move on. But I sure did learn a lot about razors, stones, steel (softness and hardness) and the process of honing itself from all of you.
That being said, this razor will now go to my showcase as a relic of the past and someday, I'll give it to my grandson so that he will have something to remember his pappy when I'm dead.
I want to thank all of you that helped me. What I learned from all of you will help me in the future as I get better at honing!Semper Fi !
