Thanked: 14That is a very decent image quality Aerdvaark, no doubt! I cannot see you needing anything better, really. In the meantime, I would totally disregard the stated sensor resolution..... as I have seen plenty of 5 MP being 1-2 MP at best, if not worse, and 2 MP ones being 0,3 MP. All usb microscopes use digital interpolation, and all these Chinese manufacturers are in a war among themselves hyping up specifications. Nevertheless, for our uses, even low magnification lenses work. Ideally though, in a general sense, the quality of the lens is what matters most....a good glass optical lens is what we should be after. Otherwise, as far as imaging sensors, digital zooming, and display definition, our smartphones can take care of the rest, as they have better specifications than anything else available.

Thanked: 595 MP = 2592 x 1944 pixels
This is the only reason I bought it is because it is true 5mp.
At any rate, cleaning the sensor and glass lenses turned this camera into a different camera all together. I was not getting that crispiness before hand, even when it was new. But yea, believe it or not, I can choose in the program resolutions all the way up to the above stated. 30fps in movie mode to boot!Last edited by Aerdvaark; 12-23-2016 at 10:45 PM.

Thanked: 14Cool! I did not know of this particular model! I would assume it is this one (or similar):

If so, you got what you need, and much more!!! It is not at all that it actually has the stated 5 MP....sure it has...., but to my eyes it has an excellent lens, and the image is processed sharp and clear! I could show you 12 MP microscope images with inferior clarity than this, due to inferior lenses.Last edited by fxt913; 12-23-2016 at 10:57 PM.

Thanked: 59The only reason I got the 5mp was because of my terrible eyesight. Bigger is better!
Like most people said 2mp is plenty enough.

Thanked: 101I have 2 Carson mini microscopes. 1 is 60 to 100 and the newer one is 60 to 120 power. The new one has an LED bulb while the older one is incandescent. I prefer the newer one, brighter and the image quality is better. I bought the new one when I couldn't find the older one. I ordered it and I found the old one about 10 minutes later. The older one was 11 bucks and the new one was 13 or 14 bucks.

Thanked: 59Hmmm, that's interesting. I would have bet money that the incandescent unit would have provided a better image.
