From the web site...
----------------------------------
Product Description
Final finisher for razors !
a1128
Very nice small Shoubudani for razors.
Good way to try hard Jnat without spending a lot of money !
Very smooth and hard stone !
Size is perfect for traveller stone
I recommend to use it with Nagura stone
-----------------------------------------------
I got it just for touching up a razor. And now I ordered a set of Nagura stones. Hoping I might be able to work up a nice edge. I didn't get it for honing a new bevel. Too fine and hard for that.
This is all I now about it. Came from JapaneseNaturalStones.com
Hope this helps. Tell me what it is, ha. I hate being so new I didn't know what I bought. It's just Sharpening, right?

Thanked: 2591You have a very fine finishing stone, that requires some skill to use.
The main thing is pressure. At the finishing stage you have to use absolutely minimal pressure, just the weight of the razor. For refresh you will need a suitable tomonagura , and with a set of nagura you should be able to use it after 5-8k synthetic.Stefan

Thanks for the info Mainaman. I'll take it to heart. Waiting on some nagura. But I need to fix what I started now. I think with some time I'll get it done. We will see.

OK, Here it is after correcting the double edge. Used Tape this time as I should have in the beginning. Spine against the hone at all times and next to no pressure. Still not getting as nice a pic as I'd like. But you can see its cleaned up nicely. I did a lot of stropping after the pic and then tried a test shave. Its OK but still not complete. Not sharp enough. With one pass from side-burn the jaw-line it didn't take all the stubble off. After I went over the area a couple more times it was clean but... Guess I still need more work. Don't understand why as the pic shows it very smooth and straight.

Thanked: 3215Ok that worked, the bevel looks better.
Put a little sharpie ink on the edge and make sure you are honing to the edge, from heel to toe, (hard to tell from the photo, but the edge looks straight.
Then look straight down on the edge with magnification and look for any shiny spots. Shiny reflections are where the bevels are not meeting.
If no reflections and honing to the edge, try stropping and, a test shave.
Nice looking stone.

Thanked: 3795As best as I can tell from the photo, it looks like you've got a great edge. Apparently you got yourself a great hone and you know how to use it.

I will tty the sharpie trick. Hadnt thought of that. I should be good but that will surely tell. As far as looking straight down the edge? I've tried that but i cant see the edge. Maybe i need sttonger than 60x to see it. Could be these old eyes too. Ha.
Thanks for the help. Ill work on thiscdome more in a few days. Going to be on the road trying to catch up because of the holiday.
Merry Christmas to all and the finest of New Years! It's just Sharpening, right?
