    Stay safe!

    When I went to Germany, I brought my shavette and a bunch of blade samples. I would recommend a tube of cream like tabac, as it easier to lather if minimum water is required. This goes for synthetic brushes as well, IME It all took up the least amount of space, as I went for 3 weeks with just a duffel bag and messenger bag.

    I've got a syn brush I was thinking of taking and a smaller tin of Le Pere I have (along with a stick of Arko).

    If your hell bent on taking a straight razor , then there are readily two options available;
    1. Take that 4/8, make the room, a few light strokes non the 8 should get you back in the game.
    2. I'll send you a barber hone, but unless you have gone this route before, the result could disappoint you. You have to learn the hone , as the 8K you already have experience.

    I would go with what Bob suggested & take a DE razor, you can easily pack enough blades to cover your stay.

    I was worried about the learning curve of the barber hone. I'll probably go with a DE.
    Honestly things just started to click with using my straights and don't want to take the 6-8 months off. But to quote Mick "you don't always get what you want".

    Thanks for the offer Hirlau, but I think your right about being disappointed. I did think about picking up one of the 1/4 cut 8k's that whipped dog sales, but DE is probably my safest bet.

    DE worked well for me on my deployment, But that was 1971. Maybe things are different now. But minimal space needed and a hundred blades don't even take much space. Tc

    We had them in the jungle too, but for R&R I liked to hit Bangkok, all pretty, But ya I,m sure my straights would suffer cause, carrying it in your but pack during the rainy season might have caused a good patina to form. Tc

    Merkur make a retro DE in bakelite - the point being it's extra light, as well being low cost in case of loss.
