    Default Travel overseas advice

Well the Navy/Marine Corps just gave me short notice for deployment back to a dry, sandy country!

I'm thinking of taking 3-4 razors with me. For stropping I was thinking of getting one of Whipped Dog's "Poor Man" strops. Any other suggestions, or ideas???

Also, I was thinking about trying to find a Barber's hone? Comments or suggestions are appreciated.

If you haven't had any Military travel experience...I'll have to travel light and expect the worse could happen to my bags. Plus, I'm medical which means I'll have one or two extra bags to lug around. This all means I've got to take bare minimal.

    Thanks,

    Jer

Nice barber hones are getting harder to find. You could also take the finish hone of your choice. You are kind of restricted in allowable weight if I recall correctly. There are Illinois strops that are easy to find and inexpensive as well.

Maybe you don't want to but t I found my DE and a few blades to be the best answer. Tc

Yup, that would solve a lot of issues. Possibly try out some brushless shave creams and if they work out you can eliminate the need for having to take a brush too. Even if I had been using a straight razors way back when I was onboard ship I still would have taken a DE shave kit for convenience sake.

What are you using to refresh your razors now?

Thank you for serving. I hope you find a solution to your shaving needs while overseas.

I think I would do as TC says and take a DE, synthetic brush and pucks. A lot simpler than hauling fragile blades, strop, etc.

Thanks for the safe wises fellas.
I might have to go the DE route like Tc suggested. That's what I've had in the past (I actually just gave away my favorite DE to a friend in college).

Hirlau...I'm using a 8K Norton right now. Just started honing and wanted to get efficient with a Norton 4k/8k (big thank you to BoB for the stone). I leave some time next month (March). Kind of pissed about the 45 day warning. If it's the mission my little birdy told me it is they've been rotating guys to this place for a while and most likely have had this planned for over a year.

    Thanks again guys.
