Thanked: 13249
These are on the bench for testing right now
The smaller one is a "Lydian" from that guy through a friend on FB and I put that in quotes for a reason,,, the Larger one is a Basanite that came by way of TN
Still testing but my initial impression is that these are the same stone from the same stone cutter..
I have only sent out a few to customers so far for opinions on the edges,, Feedback is trickling back in now..
I am NOT using a Micro bevel, it is simple really, if you are going to create a Micro bevel using a Higher angle to either improve the edge feel or lessen a chippy edge,, Why not just hone with the higher angle anyway and create a stronger bevel to begin with JMHO and a wee bit of experience...
So far the responses are good, but it is not a WOW edge yet, I guess the real question is "What is the Difference"
The biggest difference I see so far is the price of the stones the smaller "Lydian" is about $300 and the larger Basanite is less then $100 and of course the name..
Still testing
Hone On Gents
PS: Stefan have you had time to lap in your Basanite ????

Thanked: 481This is kind of where I'm at on it. Built in convexity to me means "This is where your edge will be after you hit it with .5 Mic paste once or twice." I can't see where it would be terribly beneficial, but hey...to each his own. Long as the end user is happy with the shave how they got there isn't all that important.
3 weeks polishing the hone to .050 Micron...and I thought I was particular about the surface of my hones. I wonder how fast a razor will degrade that level of polish. On anything but an Arkansas stone or something similarly hard I can't imagine it lasts long.
