Okay, I'll start. In my limited experience, too much risk, not enough reward. If I can get a superb hone job by leaving the blade flat, why risk damage to the edge by lifting the spine? The ultimate test is in the shave. What real added benefit is there in this micro-bevel?

    Just my 0.02 cents worth.
A little advice: Don't impede an 80,000 lbs. 18 wheeler tanker carrying hazardous chemicals.

This is not the first thread on micro bevels.
I cannot say I think this guys technique is great. It is really quite haphazard.
If you are going to create a micro bevel you really should use layers of tape to build up the spine giving you precicely the same micro bevel every time. Tim Zowda did a pretty good tutorial. I have shaved with one of Tims edges and it was great. I have created micro bevels using Tims method. They do shave very well and are very effective and easy to do with 1/4 and near wedge grinds. Not so much on full and extra hollow blades.

Lets see, first you take 3 weeks to polish a hone and the lift the spine as per a knife to set a micro bevel. OK, whatever works for you I guess. I'd agree with RezDog and if I were to set a micro bevel would do it as Tim Zowda does in his vid.

Guys, apart from the "technique" pay attention to the stone too. The guy claims it is the finest finisher that he has ever seen.
He claims they come from some mine in the Alps or some such.

I have a Nathan Zowada razor which has a tiny bevel. I guess he learned the technique from his Dad. It is one of my best shaving razors, although I have yet to refresh the edge myself yet.

Micro bevels have been around for a long time and have been used on wood working tools and other places for some time. The payoff is the ability to refine the edge to a very high degree in a short time without causing a foil edge or in razors what we refer to as overhoned. By the slight change in angle it focuses only on the edge and not the entire bevel. It is suppose to leave you with a very strong and highly refined edge. So in theory it is stronger, sharper and faster than any other method. Tims method is effective. We are talking about a very small advancement in the edge.
