It would be interesting to see the scratch pattern before and off the 1k before going to the Norton, cause ain't no way a 4/8 Norton caused that....No way.
That stuff comes from a cinderblock, DMT or a 600. It would take a looooong time for a Norton 4k to get those out.Last edited by sharptonn; 04-01-2019 at 01:16 AM.

Thanked: 0I went back today and relapped the 8k several times until I could run the razor down it without it feeling like there were any high points. It took a couple lapping trips. That being said I believe I got a better finish off it, yet I still have striation lines. I am little confused on what I should be getting here since I am seeing striations with brand new safety razor blades as well, so I don't know if its just how I have the light set up/angle.

Thanked: 0Thats not how that saying is used. However, they are both mirror edges that show striations when the blade is at a certain angle with the light source. If I use the second to last photo in #56 in the below link, which is off an 8k, all those bevel wide lines would light up as well if the bevel was held at a certain angle with a point light source.

Speaking of apples and oranges, I desired pics of before and after the 1k.
As-in before the 4/8.
I could live without them, I suppose.....

DE blades are plated and dipped they dont hone them so yes apples to oranges. Like he said I’d like to know what it looked like before you moved past the bevel set. The man said it best” honing is easy till it ain’t”. How much tome do you have shaving and honing? Seems like if these hard striating are there then maybe a little heavy handed. Look for a mentor close or make a meeting helps most new guys finally get it with some hands on.

Thanked: 0DE are definitely ground with some sort of wheel or stone so those marks are most likely the grind lines, plating or not
I've been honing my own razors for a couple years and can get a comfortable shave off them where I am using the sharpness of my shavette for a comparison.

Thanked: 13249How does it shave ????
Now if I was a betting man, screw that I am a betting man, I would look to the 4k as the issue, that hone has had issues since 2009 when they shifted production from the US to Mexico to Italy damn thing tosses errent grit faster than an MLB pitcher..
Regardless How does it shave ???
Try introducing a light slurry to the 8k finish,,, dilute out as you finish, and let the hone dry to a damp state almost dry ..
There are many tricks to wringing quite an edge out of the Norton 8k
By the way How does it shave ???"No amount of money spent on a Stone can ever replace the value of the time it takes learning to use it properly"

Thanks for bringing up the 4K Glen. I do remember some bad stuff about them but wasn't sure if it was the Norton 4k or not as I didn't have that issue when I bought mine. I believe folks had to lap the hell out of them as in removing an 1/8" or more from that stone before it got smooth. Maybe you got an older one?
It's just Sharpening, right?
