Someone saying to not buy another rock? What kinda Enabler are you. Reverse psychology? Ha.

Ive gotten word that my stone has SU. Holes. These holes have weak edges and are chipping off in my slurry. They can be felt when honing ( i never felt them but, not much experiance). Also they are causing a microchipping on the edge. This is why 3 laps on a 20k after this stone brings the edge to a great shave. Straightens it up. Its getting some serious lapping to see if most of the SU can be worked out or not. Words used were Toxic stone, enclusions. With a much more experienced hand he was able to get a shaveable edge but it was still microchipped. Great for a knife hone but its also soft. Also my Tomo is too soft for the stone.

So i was fighting an up hill battle that I wasn't going to win. I admit my experience level with these stones still need much more work but learning on a stone with these issues is not going to help. I should get a couple loaner stones in the mail today to help me learn to use a good Jnat and I will see how that goes in a couple days. If that goes well I will be looking for a replacement stone in the near future.

Where did you order from? Can you complain about the stones issues?

I bought it a few years back and don't have any proof. Plus i did send him an email but got no reply. If i was in his shoes i dont think id do much for me either. Just a bad luck of the draw i guess. Ive been told that a few of his stones like mine have been complained about but not all. Most people are very happy with his stones. Its just the way it goes i guess.

BTW, here is what i got in the mail today to play with. Got delivered as i was running out the door for work. This is going to be a fun weekend for honing. Maybe i will do all my razors.

For learning purposes would the tester of the stone be able to gives us his results. I am reading Su and toxic inclusions. I have not had a stone with toxic Su and I have a "few" suitas which is where you usually see Su. Usually . Toxic inclusion I understand more as needles, Harike, which can microchip your edge. Based on the stamp and the the hint that others have had a similar problem - I do remember reading about some shobudani stones from a seller that did contain toxic needles. Just curious.

Sounds like the seller did you no favor. That's why it's important to buy from a reputable seller with a return policy even if you pay a few dollars more.

Areas with su areas/bands can come in go in jnats. Usually they aren’t harmful, the miners and original sellers had a pretty good idea of what they were selling, but they can’t see into the hearts of stones, lol.

Sometimes a stone will wear into a band of unstable su or unstable thingys that messes things up. Sometimes you can lap through them, sometimes you can’t.

Su are not necessarily bad! I have a Takeda (the knife guy) Nakayama koppa that is the poster boy for fine su, it looks like someone turned Champagne into a stone. It’s wonderful.

My understanding of SU is most the time its ok. But if the edges of the SU chip off and are weaker than it will cause issues. But you all know how much i know. Just what ive read when it comes to these stones.

I can say the grayish bluebstone is Asagi. The brown one im not sure about. And what mine i have no clue. I was just happy to have something to try out. Mine might cone back usefull. Itd possible.

@Steve56 i dont like what your saying but i cant argue it. So its possible i lapped the stone and cause SU to peek its head out. I didnt know it could be in n the stone and not all the way thru. Learning more every day.

So its back to my fault lol.
