Bevel Setting

Is the bevel set properly..... here are some photos using a USB microscope . It is the same all along the razor on both sides .

The first pic looks chipped badly all over the edge. The second pic looks like the edge has a double bevel and also chipped. Could be a bad angle. But, bevel set is normally done with 1k. Those dont look like 1k stria. Or anywhere close to 1k.

What hone did you use and BTW,

Also show some pics of the whole blade, what is going on with that pattern on the belly of the razor.

Looks like you have a heavy wire edge.

That's what I'm seeing too, Marty. Very heavy, wire Edge.

And that's definitely not 1K.

What Jive's... What's being honed, on what.!?
One layer of tape.?
How new are we to honing.?

If your honing a full progression, to finish, and that's your results, then no.....the bevel was never set.

Or.!!.....you've got a rotten, razor. Rust, so deep into the metal, that the edge won't hold, and crumbles. I've only ever came across two, that were like that, and one I believe lost its temper.

Is that the dark line along the edge?

The edge is either folded over creating a shadow or the honing has not reached the edge again showing a shadow.
The black line could even be leather accumulated off an old strop. Only the OP knows for sure.

Bevel setting is the apex or two planes meeting to form a perfect V from heel to toe. It is also the most important part of honing, the foundation of your edge. It is easiest to see that it is actually set by looking straight down on the pit of the edge. 15 to 30x is all you need to see it. It should be difficult to see the edge, and as you look along it, there should be no sparkles or white line, also a strong light source is important.
You should joint that edge lightly on the edge of your 1K hone and try again. Even strokes from side to side help to prevent the wire edge.

I am new to all this and it is the first time for me and the Razor .
I have not used any tape on the spine and have used a 8 k followed by a 12 k .The razor is a dovo Bismark
