Do you find the BBW an Coticule which are 4k/8k respectively better hones than the Nortons. They're both the same grit, but I understand the Norton's man made and the coticule are quarried, if I spelled that right....Also, If you could only buy one hone, what would you get? I'm looking for a good finishing hone, hopefully one I can buy in the US

This is still the case. The Norton 4/8 is one of the most versatile stones out there and is reasonably priced. You can certainly get a good comfy shave off the 8K - especially if you take the time to learn how to hone on it well before getting distracted by all the chatter here and going out and buying all kinds of other stones. Some of my best edges (not that I'm a great honer or anything) have come off the 8K followed by a few laps on chrom ox. That's it.

Actually, the Belgian blue is said to cut more like a 6k in comparison to the Norton and the coticule closer to a 10k in comparison. If you're looking for a finisher only, the coticule, the yellow, is well regarded by those that use it. Make sure you get a top quality one.

Thanks, My head is spinning. I'll wind up buying all kind of Hones, HAD.
I want a good finisher, I'm looking of course at the Coticule/BBW. The Shapton 16k, and the Chinese 12k.
Of course there's the Japanese too.
