So i will try to do it properly on my other razor and see how it works.

Thanked: 27My Chinese 12k came perfectly flat, I tested it on a flat glass surface and it needed no lapping whatsoever. Its grit is also finer than the 12k japanese waterstones so I think it is more like 16k grit equivalent. I get amazing shaves whenever I finish with my Chinese 12k, it's an amazing stone. For finishing, I don't use the honing motion though. My motion is more similar to stropping. I use zero pressure and let the weight of the razor do all the work. The results from finishing on the 12k is so nice that stropping does not really improve the edge any further.

Glad to hear you get good results.My stone is certanly flat, the problem is most likly the scratchmarks from my dmt.As pointed out by another member.
But still, even if i were to get good results on my chinese, there is no way in h**l it could compere to the edge you get from the shapton 16k.And that is why my chinese is collecting dust right now.

Theoretically, pushing towards the edge is the correct way to hone – it supposedly is actually cutting when one does this. But I do have one Friodur that will not hone up unless I back hone – pushing towards the spine , maybe a little weight on the edge trailing behind. No other blade I own needs this. But in the right circumstance it is certainly a viable way to go.
