    Default Coticule smell??

    Hey all,

So is it just me, or do you love the smell of a coticule?? I find they have a very distinctive earthy smell to them, especially when they're wet. I remember when I lapped my large 8x2 one, the bathroom had that coticule smell in it.....love it.

    Am I sick??

I like it too! It reminds me of freshly mixed plaster - or the foamed building blocks on a building site. My harder coticule doesn't smell as gorgeous as the soft one, and the BBW I have smells different again...

    Sad, aren't we?!

    Regards,
    Neil

YOU'RE not sick, Dave, we all are. I also really like the smell of the Tam O' Shanter. To me it's got a mossy smell to it. I don't recall any of my Thuringians having an unmistakable smell like the Coticule or Tam though.

As a long time Mineral Collector and geology major I can tell you that just about all rocks have that certain smell about them when they are wet especially. It varies from type to type. I think its a wonderful smell.

One of my Japanese hones (its full description is Maruichi Nakayama Namito Kan-maki Karasu) has a very strong earthy smell that took a while to get used to. It's so strong that my wife can smell it from the next room when I am honing with it! Most of my other naturals put off some kind of smell but nothing like this one. When I first started using it, I was kind of repulsed by the smell but I have come to really like it!

Glad to hear I'm not the only one to appreciate the smell of a nice stone!
