Thanked: 13For progression, my DT goes after 8k and before CrO paste.
I'm sure that it is not as good as a couticle, but given the price difference, might be handy for cheap guys like me

Thanked: 6Mine seams indistinguishable from my Chinese12K after a CrOx stropping. Not sure about before. Everything hits the CrOx before it hits my face. The scratch pattern is almost identical under a 30X loop and much finer than my Kitayama. Its softer than the 12K and seams to cut faster. Im using the 12k only because its a much larger stone so it nicer to use. If the DT was the same size i think i would mostly be using it.

Thanked: 16Eventually going to have to get one of these even if I don't use it just for the memories of having toured that quarry in the past.... perhaps some day I'll make it over to Belgium also......

Well, I've used my DT exactly once now.
It feels harder (i.e., less feedback) than my Chinese 12K. If I'm perceiving the scratch pattern through my microscope correctly, it is similar to a DMT8EE; so it's 3 micron-ish. However, I'd like to reproduce that following some other stones before calling it that. Since I lapped it, maybe it's cutting slower and/or shallower than I think.
The bevel was shiny, but slightly hazy, and did not appear as polished as from my Norton 8K.

Just bought a Dragon's Tongue which arrived today. In everone's opinon is it fine to use out of the box or does it need lapping? If it needs lapping what do I need to do?
I realise there is debate about this stone, but considering it's all that I have, I am going to use it anyway.

Thanked: 402I don't know what the previous owner did with this hone,
or whether that was the way it came out of the box
but since I lapped mine it significantly improved.
Put some wet sanding paper grit 320 (made wet) onto an even surface.
Then lap it in circular motion.
Repeat with 400 grit or higher.
When its properly treated its in a similar range than the BBW or a bit higher.
Not bad.Last edited by 0livia; 05-05-2009 at 05:45 PM.

Thanked: 234I have just looked into buying these, I saw one on ebay and checked here. I think I'll get one, they're cheap enough.
I'm checking about getting one with a slurry stone as well, any one think that's a worthwhile idea?

Mine came from Ingo and definitely needed lapping. I've only used it once and I don't recall what the results were. I will try it out again soon and post whatever my experience turns out to be.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
