    Default Why isn't this working...

    Hey guys,

I recently got my DMT 1200 to use in combination with my belgian blue and yellow coticule.

Following Bart's Wiki I tried to set the bevel on the dmt followed byt the blue with slurry then the yellow with plain water.

The razor shaves but it's not comfortable at all. THe blade skips on the face a bit and gives a weird feeling uncommon to my previous experience with this Dovo Tortoise.

I did sooooo many passes on the DMT. The blade feels sharp but I'm not sure if it qualifies for passing the TNT test.

After that I did about 200 passes on the blue with slurry followed by the same amount on the coticule with water.

I don't really feel like the blue is doing anything to be honest. Could the razor be overhoned? Is the bevel not set properly?

    Help please....

When you say so many passes on mt DMT? how many are we talking about. The DMT 1200 cuts through steel at lightning speed.

The blue is a very slow cutter and if you used the DMT 1200 for to many strokes the scratches go extremely deep. Using a 4K before the blue would be my MO.

I did probably about 200 passes or more on the dmt..

I don't have a 4k stone all I have is my belgian blue and coticule and a swaty.

Would using the coticule with slurry after the DMT help remove those deep scratches?

The deep scratches scenario would make sense since I got a decent shave out of it and it passed the HHT on some parts of the blade. The blade doesn't feel as sticky to the thumb pad as I've seen it before using my 4k/8k (no longer have it)

200 passes!! on a Dovo Tortoise? Oy... Do you still have a spine left or did you at least tape it?

20 passes would have been more than enough. I hope you didn't use any pressure either.

Did you have to use the rolling X? Did you notice a light warp in he blade? Did you do the marker test?

If the only stones you have are the Blue and Yellow your only option at this point would be to use the yellow only with slurry and be prepared to spend a long time and many many laps until you feel improvement.

haha yes I used tape and zero pressure.

So I should try the coticule with slurry followed by the blue with slurry and then finally coticule with plain water + cr0?

Forget the blue at this point.

First make yourself some sandwiches and have some sodas ready in a cooler.

    Yellow and slurry.

Keep going at it until you notice improvement.

Take a break if you start to get cramps, feel dizzy or think you might be getting some arthritis in your forearm.

Slowly start diluting the yellow slurry and finish with yellow/water only.

    Then the cro-ox.

Go to bed and try to have a good night sleep.

    Strop and shave.
