Looking at your blog it appears that you have a fixed regimen, i.e. a certain amount of strokes on each of the grits ? As opposed to doing some strokes and then TPT or popping hair off of the arm to test the edge ? I try to test the edge every so many strokes so that I don't go past it. When I feel it is sharp enough I move up the ladder.

I try and go with the admonition that Lynn uses,"Less is more". I don't worry that much about whether the previous scratch pattern is completely removed as long as the scratches are uniform and the edge is sharp. Good on you for keeping a record of your honing. I got that idea but have been terribly inconsistent in practicing it.
