    Default PYRAMIDS

The Norton 4k/8k pyramids posted by Lynn have definitely worked for me. I would find pryamids less of a hassle if I had seperate 4k and 8k stones rather than the combo stone I am using. Constantly flipping the combo takes some of the fun out of it.

I would definitely try a pyramid on any problem razor. I think pyramids sort of give sight to the blind in a manner of speaking.

+1, that is why I sold my combo and bought the single grits. Very convenient to have the stones more or less side by side as I go through the paces.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I pyramid on all my honing set-ups.

My cheap sun tiger waterstones work just as well as the Norton in this regard, and so does microabrasive film.

I have honed progressively but I don't get a better edge when I do and I have to pay much more attention to the condition of the edge throughout the honing process. There is a greater risk of moving on to soon, or overhoning when I use this method. So with no benefit to the edge and lot more work needed on my part I prefer to pyramid.

usually not, but sometimes. I usually do a circles/progressive method with 1000 grit diamond plate, then coticule w/ heavy slurry, bbw w/slurry, bbw w/water, coticule w/ light slurry, coticule w/water.
