Do you pyramid?
Simple yes or no... or sometimes. Do you pyramid when you hone?
I'm very curious as to who uses a pyramid and who does not. If you'd like, please feel free to add in which hones you pyramid with and what your pyramid is like.
Thanks.

I fall into the sometimes category. Lately pyramids more often than not. Sometimes with the Norton 4/8, the Shapton Pro 2k/5k and polish on the 8k, the naniwa 3k/5k and polish on the 8k. I may go further up the grit ladder in polishing but the 8k and above is always progressive.
All of the above is following setting the bevel. If I am using naturals I do not pyramid and I sometimes do hone on bbw/coticule or on an Eshcer....after setting the bevel on a synthetic.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I can't say that I really know what a pyramid is. I have an idea from reading some posts. I guess I would have to vote no.
sometimes I come back to a coarser grit when I realize that I moved up a grit too soon. Does that count as a pyramid?

Well, I've been trying the pyramid. I've got three razors in need of some work, and a Norton 4K/8K combo stone. So, of course, having "grown up" here, I'll try the pyramid. So far, the results have been less than impressive, but that may be my inexperience.

Yes, I usually use the pyramid. Simply because it works for me.

When learning on the Norton combo (4/8) I used the pyramid advised in various posts. It worked and taught me the principles.
Since moving to natural stones and becoming more confident with what I was doing, I dropped the prescriptive pyramid but retained the principle of dropping down to a lower grit before proceeding up again if the outcome is not as desired at each stage.
So 'no' now, but I used to.

Thanked: 37Lynn says that pyramiding is used for the 4/8 Norton. Since I don't own the Norton 4/8, I don't pyramid. I use Shaptons which are designed to be used progressively so that is what I do.

I do with my Norton. I set bevel on Naniwa 1k, pyramid my Norton 4k/8k, then finish with Naniwa 12k.
I'm new and those are pretty much the only hones I use. Started the pyramid because I was following the wiki and have continued because it has worked so far.
