    I don't always stand up to hone, but for the smaller hones, I always hold them in my hand. I have move control over my strokes that way, and like others, I tend to hold the hone off level while I do.

    Feels like I get a more "natural" movement when the hone isn't sitting flat on the table.

    Here is a picture of my couch potato setup. I set the big cutting board on my lap. I use a plate to catch the water and a keep a folded towel underneath the hone to keep the water from splashing around.


    My secret ( I wish that I had one) is that I go to the sink during commercials to refresh the hone and empty the water out of my plate. I guess, that I am still sink dependent.
