    Default Barber hone use?

    Hello all,

My Dovo pulled a bit this morning and I feel I should touch up the blade. I have a Swaty and know that it is only a few lapps.

However I'm confused as to stropping after touch up. Do I do my regular 50 linen, 50 leather or just leather?

    Thanks,
    Lu

I always strop linen then leather after I hone/touch up. I've read that you only need to strop on leather right after you use a hone and you could skip the linen. Personally I don't think you can over strop so I always do my regular stropping routine after I do a touch up.

Yep,just give 'er 10 light laps with water, then your regular stropping routine. If it's not quite right,5-10 more, strop again etc.I trust your swaty has been lapped?

Yes, I had lapped it when I first received it, more to clean it than any other reason. It was in great shape. If I did not know any better would have said it was brand new.

    Thanks

When I touch up my blade on the Swaty, I always do my normal stropping routine, which for me is 25/50

I agree with the guys, stropping is called for, but be sure to strop just before each and every shave, not the night before the shave.

The use of linen has been debated here for years, just try it both ways and see which suits you better.

    Thanks all,

I will touch up the blade tomorrow and do my usual 50/50 and let everyone know how it works for me.

There is no definite answer to that . Some may be 6k others up to 10 or 12k. The estimates are based on the impressions of individual users if I'm not mistaken.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
