Default This is gonna sound odd... New way to check a bevel...

I have been having trouble with the existing tests. It seems to me that most people that know what they are doing consider the thumb pad test (TPT) to be the most accurate.
I don't have the sensitivity in my thumb developed well enough to be able to tell one edge from another. (well beyond a certain point anyway)

I got to thinking about different ways to check for a good bevel. Here's what I came up with (this is gonna sound strange, but trust me...) Tonight I tried checking the bevel on various razors by pressing the edge against the tip of my tongue. (no they didn't cut in)
Why do toddlers constantly put things in their mouths? Because the tongue has more nerve endings per square inch than any other part of the body (with the possible exception of the sex organs, but I am NOT gonna by the first one to try the HPT... )
Anyhow... There are far more nerve endings on the tongue than there are on the thumb. A razor that feels sharp to me by using the TPT feels like a butterknife on my tongue. It is very easy for me to tell the difference from one to another this way. I can even tell which of my shave-ready razors has the best edge on it.

Ok. So it works for me. Let the comments begin...

Can you taste the difference between Naniwa's and naturals? Naniwa claims they taste the same.

Honestly, if it works for you, cool. I wouldn't do it and I wouldn't advise others to try because of the potential risk, but since you can do it safely, cool.

Risk of cutting the tongue or is there something else I'm not thinking of here?

I'm glad I'm in an open mind mood. But, I mean, really. Do you think this is hygenic?

If the razor is disinfected first, why not?

Well, if it works for you and your comfortable with it there's nothing wrong with it however I don't think I'd be recommending it to most others.

And disinfected after, I hope. Mouths are full of all sorts of stuff I wouldnt want accidently placed in a wound on my face. Personally I would feel safer going from the stones to my mouth without disinfecting than I would from my mouth to my face to shave.
