    Joe,
    The Eschers are waterstones. They are naturally quarried stones from Germany but the original source is long gone. When they turn up on eBay they make the price of a Belgian yellow look like chump change <g>. Originally they would have come with asmaller piece of the Escher material to create a slurry with.

    I haven't been able to get one of those Eschers, but I do have a Droescher water hone, which is quite good. It has one of those rubbing stones.
