Black marker test and TNT should both pass, at the same time, before going up in grit (past the 1200).

edit: it looks like a bit of frown in the picture to me, too.

You know I actually think it does have a frown, or might not be perfectly flat. I plan to go over this razor closely tomorrow looking over everything about it's physical condition. It's such a beauty (to my eye) I have kind of set it aside as a special project. I want to keep the blade's patina, but I don't want it just to look old. And I want it to shave so well that I keep it out a lot!

I feel like I should be paying tuition here at SRP School of Honing Arts!

Thanks for that. I hadn't seen it before.
    A very well done article.

The Wiki is so underused but so full of answers
The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

I agree with Onimaru55, it does look to be a frown. Back to the lower grits until it comes out and the bevel is staight across.

I swear I see a frown in the middle of the blade in the first picture. I could be wrong and be mislead by perspective though. Waves of water act the same along the edge? If not adjust your strokes.

I should read the second page before I respond. Lol if you work through it it'll end up straight as mentioned.

    Hey
I got this razor honed--straightened out the frown and the spine had been pretty worn down so I taped the edge and it honed up pretty nicely. It needs more TLC, but it shaves comfortably as is and I've moved on to other razors.

Grateful to all who advised on this little challenge!

You beat one of the great honing challenges for a new honer. Great job and enjoy!

Hey thanks. With all the help, encouragement, and advice I've been given around here, I should be way better at this than I am. Still, I'm having a ball rescuing lost razors, popping them out of the scales, or rescuing scales from crappy blades, cleaning them all up, and getting them together with a fresh edge and a new life on my face!
