Newsflash-straight shaver tortured to death by razor.
When I got my new TI Damascus it was in sorry shape. It was like a butter knife. It took me months of on and off honing to get it to shave. That was probably 7 years ago and all I had was a Norton 4K/8K and a Kitayama. Eventually it was tamed and I've been shaving with it for years on and off probably 100 plus shaves without even a touchup but I knew the dreaded day would come some day when it needed to be honed and that day arrived yesterday.
Yes I had this dream last night it was siting on the table talking to me, mocking me, daring me to hone it. Then it started following me around the house laughing. I pulled out every hone I had and as I started to hone it the hones started to crumble in front of me and the razor laughed even harder. My horsehide strop turned into a horse right in front of me and galloped off. Wow what a dream.
This morning I kept putting off the inevitable. But it still sat there staring at me while I was eating breakfast giving me indigestion. I started to hone it but I chickened out and put it off until lunch but chickened out again. Finally the missus said "are you going to hone that thing or whistle dixie?"
Well I couldn't put it off any longer. That thing is made from wootz steel and is as hard as, well, really hard steel.
So I did about 50 passes on .5 diamond and 50 passes on .25 diamond and you know what? It shaves BBS. Harsh from the .25 diamond but tomorrow I'll put it on the CrO to smooth it out.
So all you bright guys out there whats the moral of the story here?No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Once honed right, follow-up is not so bad.

Actually just to tell you how tough this steel is I did 50 passes on CrO on my bench strop and it toned down the harshness very very slightly. I estimate it will take at least 200 passes on the CrO it get it right. Tell me any razor you would ever dare use anything even close to that in passes.

The Meaning is Obvious
It's telling you that you need to take out a 2nd Mortgage and buy a few more stones! What good is a house if you can't have a good shave?
Just to **** it off, rather than try to placate it w/ some stone from France, either something from it's German nemesis (escher), or from the opposite side of the world (Jnat) - just to show it who's boss. Don't take any guff from that bad boy.
I'm certain there will be much agreement to this. 'Spoke w/ a member today that had $1400 or so in a jnat. I may not be able to do the same, but I'm not convinced he has erred. 'Some nice edges. I'll shave w/ one of them in a couple wks.
Should the Eschers and Jnat's not consume all available house equity, perhaps a few Zowada, Livi, Harner, Williams blades? And, of course 24 carat razor stands that would be fitting of such hardware. It's only right.
Your path is clear.
