It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

You know I tried this today...
I took 2 razor's put a 1k bevel on them with my king. Stropped them on leather about 100 laps, I didn't use linen as I wanted to feel without the linen doing what it does. ( whatever that may be, up for debate)
I was expecting an awful shave..
To my surprise it wasn't that harsh, I didn't get massive irritation like I was expecting and I found out the difference between a set and unset bevel as I stopped shaving with one after the first stroke. The other cleaned the whiskers off no problem..
I had more irritation the day before tryin to shave off a barber home edge.. Which is funny because you would expect the 1k vs 8k(relative) barber hone shave would be miles apart in difference... I think a well done one is far better yes but if you do too many strokes on the barber hone following the 1k you are rewarded with truly spectacular irritation, itching and redness. I found this funny.

Thanked: 481I want to try this, but I also don't want to dull any of the edges I've put on my razors! Dangit...

Thanked: 481You put the bug in my ear, and Ebay had the right deal at the right time. Lot of 3, 2 in easily restore-able condition for a steal. The 3rd has a major chip and probably trash.
So, I have a Wedge incoming, and a Germania Cutlery Works OTW. I've wanted a Wedge to compare to the rest for a while now. We'll see what condition they're in, and figure out which is getting the 1k experiment. Probably the GCW because it's a basic hollow ground straight, and I have most experience honing those. The wedge may be a bit of a challenge, so I'll reserve that for experimentation.
